How does self-awareness contribute to team development?
Improved communication
Self-awareness gives each team member a deeper understanding of their own communication style and preferences. This contributes to more effective communication as members learn to adapt their messages to meet the needs and understanding frameworks of others. The improved communication skills also help to reduce misunderstandings and therefore increase productivity.
increased empathy
When members have a clear understanding of their own strengths, challenges and motivators, they are also better able to understand their colleagues, which helps to create an environment of mutual understanding where employees feel heard and understood, which contributes to feeling heard and understood.
inclusion & diversity
Team development promotes inclusion and diversity,
resulting in a workplace where each employee's unique perspectives and skills are valued. This creates a meaningful and enriching work experience.
better conflict management
When you get to know your own reaction patterns, it's easier to work towards solutions that promote collaboration rather than exacerbate conflict.
Personal leadership
Self-awareness is at the heart of personal leadership. When team members are able to lead themselves, they become more accountable and engaged, creating a positive impact on the performance and dynamics of the entire team.
Promotes targeting
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses helps team members focus their energy and resources on tasks and projects where they can contribute the most. This promotes a more targeted approach to task completion.
Develops trust
Self-awareness is the foundation for building trust in a team. When members are open about their own skills and limitations, an atmosphere of honesty and trust is created.
Supports development
Team members who prioritize self-awareness also seek constant learning and development. This leads to a culture of continuous improvement where both personal and professional skills are developed.
Self-awareness in the workplace? Isn't it vulnerable?
I'm often asked if it can be a little vulnerable to work with self-awareness as part of team or leadership development in the workplace?
And yes, working on yourself can be a bit vulnerable. But it can be just as vulnerable to end up in conflict-filled situations in the workplace without having the right understanding of why you end up in those situations and without knowing how to get out of them in a constructive way. So, gaining greater self-awareness and a better understanding of your colleagues can help to create greater peace and security in the collaboration.
The most important thing when working with self-awareness is to create a "gentle space" where each individual is taken into account.

Testimonials from customers
Ursula Dieterich-Pedersen, Headmaster at Løgumkloster Højskole
"At Løgumkloster Højskole we have chosen to use Anja's expertise on the Enneagram for a staff day. All participants were given a personality type test and had a personal conversation with Anja. On the actual staff day, we were given an exciting and easy-to-understand overview of all the personality types and how they react to challenges. It was a fantastic day with presentations, individual and group assignments.
"Anja has a great knowledge of people, relationships, teams and leadership. As a facilitator, she manages to create a trusting space where everyone to give something of themselves. Everyone left with a completely new understanding of themselves and their colleagues and we have gained a language for our ways of working together. We have chosen to use Anja for 4 more team building days in the new year (2024) to strengthen our communication and openness when conflicts arise. Anja's way of working with teams is highly recommended."
